A professor and one student, working together
What ED-E is

Here is what learning is supposed to feel like.

Someone who knows your name. Who has watched you work long enough to know how you think and where you get stuck. They start where you actually are, not at week one of a syllabus written for nobody in particular. When something does not land, they notice, and they slow down. They stay with it until it is yours. And the day you are ready for something harder than you think you can handle, they are the one who hands it to you.

ED-E is that teacher, built as an AI. Not a chatbot you ask questions. A professor who knows you, has a plan for you, and stays for life.

What it looks like

We start from the job. Then we work backwards.

Study for years, earn a degree, and hope for the best.
Start from the job you want, and build until you can do every part of it.
This works for anything you can name. Design, sales, physics, a kitchen, rocket science. Tell ED-E the job you want, and it builds you up to every part of it. Here is one, to show you how it works:

Welcome to ED-E.
Before the lecture halls and the exams, learning was one teacher and one student, side by side. ED-E is bringing that back, for everyone.
It took the most advanced technology humankind has ever built to bring back the oldest way of learning there is.
What ED-E is built on

Before we built ED-E, we went back to the beginning.

ED-E is built on forty years of education research, a 1995 novel that predicted this moment, and a psychology theory from the 1930s that explains exactly why it works.

The science
The Zone of Proximal Development
Lev Vygotsky, 1930s

Psychologist Lev Vygotsky identified the space between what a student can do alone and what they can reach with expert guidance. We learn best when the work is just past what we can already do, with someone beside us who knows exactly where that edge is. ED-E's entire teaching approach is built around finding that zone for each student and teaching exactly there, never below it, never beyond it, never the same for two people.

The method
Cognitive Apprenticeship
Collins, Brown & Newman, 1989

In ancient times, teaching and learning were accomplished through apprenticeship: we taught our children how to speak, grow crops, craft cabinets, or tailor clothes by showing them how and by helping them do it. Apprenticeship was the vehicle for transmitting the knowledge required for expert practice in every field. It was the natural way to learn. Collins, Brown and Newman called for bringing this model back into modern education. ED-E is that model, built natively with AI from the ground up.

The vision
The Diamond Age
Neal Stephenson, 1995

In Neal Stephenson's novel, a young girl receives an interactive book that adapts completely to the child reading it. It teaches her not just to read, but to think, reason, and grow over years. It remembers her. It shapes itself around who she is becoming. Engineers and educators have called it the ideal vision of personalised, adaptive learning for thirty years. ED-E is the attempt to build that, not for children of privilege, but for every working adult, in any field, for the whole of their working life.

There are 2,400 years of thinking behind why ED-E is built the way it is.
